Adding my Novation ReMOTE 25SL Compact

I am trying to connect my MIDI controller to my show and I does not recognise it in the MIDI patching window. Can this be done with a usb cable or does it have to run as a 5 pin MIDI controller via an Audio Interface?

Midi is open with all our dmx interfaces.
Our software is supposed to be compatible with all midi interfaces detected by the Operating System (this includes usb midi interfaces).
