External Control via midi sliders and dmx faders

Post by mewewe »

Some things that would make this program much more friendly in the live show environment..

I'm wondering if there is any way to incorporate either/or midi CC control or DMX control in "live" of the preset function. I would love to set my color wheel settings, gobos etc.. to be able to adjust on the fly and it seems that the preset function is a good way to do this.. but there's no way to control it unless I'm using a mouse which isn't very practical.

Also wondering if there is any way to add a setting concerning DMX control to allow which ever device that is currently inputting data to have priority? (External dmx controller vs. software) Similar to "highest level has priority" but this doesn't allow me to grab a fader to pull a level down on an external controller after I have activated a scene in the software. (for example: a stage wash)

Thank you,

1)
"Midi sliders to Live preset sliders" is in the TODO list.

2)
We do not understand. The following options are already available: DMX input, Software, Highest Level Takes Priority

Good to hear midi sliders are in the works! As far as "Highest level takes priority"

This only allows me to go up in value, instead of up or down. If the software scene sets the fader level to say 77, I can only increase that value with the external controller. I can't grab the fader to pull down a level. So for instance if I needed to dim something on the fly to value 33, I can't accomplish this because the setting is "highest value" takes priority. If there was some way to make it so that which ever device is "active" takes priority instead of whichever is higher in value then this could be accomplished. My expertise is not in coding software or anything like that, but it would make sense to me that if the software received any incoming dmx value it would automatically switch over to the external controller and change to that value, until you trigger a new scene or adjust something in the software -- then it switches back to software.

I hope this makes sense?

We understand, but not easy to figure out regarding software coding side.
Moreover, dangerous with analogue sliders of cheap lighting desks, because the value is not stable.

Anyway, we note your requirement, and we will check if other similar requirements.

Good point. Perhaps a compromise where you could just hit a button on the live board (that is midi or dmx controlled) and that button switches the control back and forth.. but then the scene isn't actually effected until a slider reaches the current value that it's set on. Another words, if you hit your button to switch over to external console and all your faders are at 0, it wouldn't just change all of your values to 0. The software scene would hold where it's at until your slider hit's that value and then your external controller would take over.

Anywho, just some thoughts..
Thanks for taking this into consideration!

Hi
I made a simular request a time ago.
Mayby its possible to connect the dmxin or midi to the faders in editor?
In live there could be a button to aktivated and deaktivade editor.
In patch you would have a Screen to tell witch ext fader connects to witch editor fader
The delay times are not that important i think.

I don't understand why this isn't possible now. I just "upgraded" to ShowXpress from myDMX and I was able to midi map the X and Y sliders on my moving heads on the fly in that program. AND the program had midi learn!

Now I like a lot of the features in ShowXpress (like layering), but this thing is supposed to be a better option to the less priced (by about $100) and lesser quality competitor. C'mon guys! Let's get on the ball and offer MORE features than lesser products!

Adding midi sliders would be a huge improvement to the live control of the program.

For example, I use an Oxygen 49 as a midi controller and have multiple sliders on the keyboard. With midi sliders that are assignable, I could set a function such as the program speed for the chase program on my ColorStrips and then speed them up or slow them down using a slider. Strobe speeds, X and Y faders, gobo rotation speed, all of these really need to be able to be controlled like this.

Good to hear that other people are pushing this.. Seems to me that these kind of things are an intrinsic part of a lighting controller. (Having variable control of values) Hope something comes to fruition soon!
