Is there a way to incorporate a speed and dimmer fader into live? The only way I have found to control speed and brightness is to create a scene/button for each level. Thats a lot of buttons for 256 steps.

It is not possible to incorporate faders into Live.
We do this from Editor, using groups (Editor offers you 512 faders, with grouping on the fly ability).

OK I will continue on the way the I have been. The editor is not a very freindly to use live, I use it to build the scenes but to to perform. Can I have the editor just show me certain channels of certain fixtures? i.e. speed and dimming on scanners and strobe etc..

Not as you would like to have it.
Editor has three modes to show channels: all channels, assigned channels, group channels.

I have been searching the manual and forum for info on fading out a scene. (I'm new, so patience please) How do you make a scene (from Live) fade out, instead of "cut" out? It seems like that would be a high priority for most live shows. thanks

Make a "blackout" scene with all shutters open and dimmers down and just set your desired fade time.
You then activate this to do a "fade to B/O"
