Workaround fading Pan/Tilt

I've googled and searched the forum and have found that you can't fade Pan/Tilt by default. Could you however work around this by editing the profile and add a "dimmer" for the values of 0-255? Or would you actually have to change the entire channel to a dimmer channel and just know that it is actually pan/tilt?
