The Lighting Controller

I am confused by the operation of the buttons. Let's say I have a scene that simply fades in and I want it to fade out when I turn it off. I only have one step in my scene because I don't know how long I want it to last and I need to be able to manually trigger it when I want. So let's say I have a scene that is set to smooth transition. When I click the button, the lights fade in but when I click it again, the lights go off suddenly. How can I accomplish having them fade out?

You have to create 2 scenes : one for fade in and one for fade out. In Live you can use a "chase" page to put your buttons.

Do I then make them solo buttons with no loop so the fade out doesn't happen until I unclick the fade in?

Yes, sorry i wanted to say "solo button" and not "chase"

Fade in would be one scene with 2 steps - Step 1 = the desired fade then step 2 hold the fade for something like 30 minutes.
Fade out = one non looped fade out.

In fact, the best way to do that is to use single step scenes. In this case you must not use the "No_Loop" option on the Live buttons. Live will naturaly fade from the precedent value to the desired value.

We do not see any easy way to do this, because of scenes can have more then one step.
The easiest way is effectively to insert "one step" scenes in a "solo button" page.

Erik, it would seem to me that you should be able to have the lighting controller recognize a single step program for a dimmer channel that the curve fades in and out for a single scene. I undrstand it would be much more difficult as multiple channels, and it may have to be hard coded as a dimmer fixture only specifically for dimmer packs. I have seen many requests for this across many threads. This is a popular feature on many other consoles. if they have figured it out, why cant we have it too. I would think a ramp approach would work. Especially in the live controller. making the user create a 2nd program is bs, this is a programming issue I have that makes me use this controller as a last option only. even my nsi 24 channel board knows to auto fade out a fade in

It is very easy for Live-Buttons to do fade in and out between scenes.
