Auto BPM [fixed]

I currently have Auto BPM set up and receiving its internal audio signal.
My question is, Is Auto BPM meant to trigger steps inside a scene spot on time with the music ? CUrrently it does it for a couple of beats, then stops, then starts (maybe) It just seems to pick and choose what beats it wants to trigger ? I have songs that are in tight 4/4 drum and bass and Auto BPM only works loosely.
It is worth noting, I am not using this from the live screen/ Scenes. I am using it inside timeline, ie: 8 timelines all doing their thing but one scene inside the Timeline is a rig colour chase is the only scene set to Auto BPM (Auto BPM is also ticked in the live screen) So I am expecting this colour chase scene to trigger exacctly in time with the music whilst all the other scenes in my timeline do their own thing. Because there is an option to set Auto BPM in the scene in timeilne I obviously expected it was there to be used ?
If Auto BPM is still not an exact science yet then fair enough, I can stop fiddling to try getting it to work bang on time with the music.
P.S Yes I have the soundcard routed and the Auto BPM counter and bargraph is displaying whilst the audio is playing.
Any comments ?
Lee.

Hi Lee,
I have never had fantastic results with Auto BMP, I like mine to be as tight as possible (i'm picky) so I stick to hammering that spacebar when ever the tempo slightly changes! Even then the lights do a funny jump if you are slightly correcting their timing or something.
Just my experience

For us, the space bar thing gives us similar poor results, We are left calculating the step times which with a wee bit work gets good results. Our Pars are sound to light but too sensitive even with the notch at the lowest setting and it whites out rather than sound to light with nice colour swatches.
Thanks for the info,
Regard,
Lee.

manual BPM (space bar) is supposed to be accurate
The major problem with auto BPM (sound input) is for each new song, it requires min 5 sec to analyze the music. After that time, it is effectively not very accurate, but it works.
For our knowledge, if you know other software with accurate "auto BPM", please let us know.
And of course, software code of accurate "auto BPM" management are welcome to

I have used Dj programs that provide a wave image of the sound

(hint) that have a very good beat recognition but of course this would only work for time line rather than live audio input. I used this
http://www.virtualdj.com/ software.

When you play a song with this software, it is able to display its BPM (?) (we mean a real calculation).
Or does this software has a huge bank of musics with known BPM (?)
Or may be this software ask for the BPM via internet (?)
Please confirm that this software has a real calculation of the BPM in real time.
If yes, please tell how many seconds it takes to give the BPM for each new song.

Its a bit difficult to describe, when I have settled in France (I leave tomorrow morning) I'll try to do a quick video showing what happens. (I really need some video capture software!!)

I am using VirtualDJ too. It has best AutoBPM I've ever seen. You can check every soundfile and after 3 seconds it has set the beat and the bpm in 95% correctly (100% at electronic music). Additionaly it shows you a graphic soundwave where every beat is marked with a short " - " and every 4th beat is marked with a long " - ". Very nice, take a look at trial version for more info.

I have already used Virtual DJ and IIRC, it calculates the BPM of an entire (MP3) sound file by preprocessing it (which allows statistical calculation, and so on ...). The "Auto BPM" function of "Live" tries to detect the beats of real time playing (recorded) music and it is not the same thing at all. Normally, it works not so bad with well beaten music

As I said above it would only work for timeline so that the audio file is already there. It would work with live audio.
