Earl's Screenshots, Version 7
Re: Earl's Screenshots, 7 Alpha 2
Earl,
I am just starting to get familiar with ShowXpress. It's so overwhelming but with all the help here, it's getting better. I am building my Live show and was feeling ok, until I saw yours!! It's amazing, I can't begin to understand how you did it!!! I was able to get some ideas based on your screenshot because I also have Q-Spot 260's. I am wondering how you built your base movements and how you worked with the X and Y, along with speed and percentages as you show on your screen? I know it's not a simple answer, but if you have time, I am willing to listen. I can also give you my email address if that's easiest for you. I also wanted to ask about midi, I see you downloaded a program and I have no clue how that even works, can you briefly explain?
Thank you,
Sergio

Hey Sergio!
Thanks! for the Q-spots 260s first orientate them so the LCD faces the crowd or center of dance floor...
I mostly use them on totems these days numbered 1-4 from right to left, If I hang them I reverse them 1-4 left to right...
I start with the stock curves that are available in Generator, since the 260's pan 540 degrees I may reduce the size/shape of the curve to get an actual circle or square curve...
i set the time to work with the beat of the music in 4/4 for example 4 seconds= 1 beat per second... if the music is 120 BPM thats a half a sec per beat, typically I start with 2,4,8,or 16 seconds for the duration... I avoid using odd numbered seconds of duration...
Once I've stored the generated curve ( I like refer to them as "Genys) I'll open live and start a new page and start a new page for my movements, add my scenes/ "genys"! I usually put both my Stationary/Static and my moving/Dynamic "genys" on the same page... the moving ones I turn into a speed slider so I can adjust the speed. I have separate pages for color, gobos 1, gobo 2, prism, strobes, focus (I usually only use 2 different focus scenes depending on which gobo wheel i'm using or want to be predominant if combining both) most of my pages are in solo mode...
Once I have achieved a "look" im going for with the combination of scenes from different pages I assign them to a Macro on another page (in solo mode) so I can trigger them via MIDI... The Macro also stores the setting of the speed sliders...
Pan and Tilt are each two step scenes that once assigned to a fader button in live can be stored once you've achieved the position to a Macro, hope this helps some,
I'm around if you want some more advice, I'm also on Facebook...

Re: Earl's Screenshots, 7 Alpha 2
Thank you for your reply! I am starting to build some of what you said and it seems to be headed in the right direction. I agree, the only way to really get your base movement Is when you are at the venue to really see what your lights are doing and adjust accordingly. I also use totems. When you talk about BPM, is that on scene properties? When you create a Macro, can you add multiple steps to each macro or do you have to separate them out in order for them to work correctly? For example, if I create a base movement layer, add color, focus, maybe a prism or strobe, can it be under one macro? Or how do you recommend I do that? Do you know also if there is a way to change a button?, if you press pink, then white, they both stay depressed and the last movement you make is what shows, sometimes they colors even blend!
Thank you again!!!
Sergio

BPM is unavailable in the generator... I used the 120 BPM as an example to figure out duration in seconds...
Creating a Macro involves "stacking" multiple buttons from multiple pages and/or Timelines...
Pages can also be put into Play or Random mode where they will cycle thru buttons in sequence or randomly when a button is triggered ...
Putting a page in Solo mode ensures that only one button at a time can be depressed within that page...
