I think I figured it out... I can trigger simultaneous scenes as long as they're coming from different "Pages". That works for me.

I want to set some certain lights so they simply come on and stay on until I hit that button again (to turn them off). The catch is... I want to be triggering other scenes in between. I got it to work! I think I figured it out. My scene files were not stored in the "scenes" folder within the new 'light show' (folder) that I created. I was just using the default light show when I started, and kept my scenes in a separate desktop folder. Once I copied them into the light shows ...

thanks for the response. so I got the lights to react in 'live' mode when i run the demo. Any ideas why my scenes won't play in live mode when I've created buttons for them?
